A Corrales, new mexico company dedicated to sustainability
Mary Chappelle and Gail Garber, Partners
Mary E. Chappelle was a practicing attorney in New Mexico for more than 30 years. While law was her occupation, her passion was birds and thus she served on the Board of Directors of Hawks Aloft for 20 years. As an extension of service on the board she assisted with rehabilitation of injured American Kestrels, caring for them with the goal of enabling their release to the wild. She also worked in educational programs to help educate the public about raptors and birds in general, as well as assisting with educational programs for school children. Shortly after retirement, Ms. Chappelle was appointed to a position on the Corrales Bosque Advisory Commission which focuses on the use and preservation of the Corrales Bosque. She also now serves on the Corrales Planning & Zoning Commission.
Gail Garber has more than 30 years of experience with avian monitoring and conservation, including project management, biological assessments, curriculum development, and a solid history of developing collaborative working groups. She has developed company-specific curriculum, produced bird identification guides, and conducted training classes for the utility industry and the International Boundary Water Commission. She has more than 25 years of experience with state and federal permit requirements relative to birds. She has published articles in peer-reviewed journals, written and edited technical reports for several agencies, authored three books and more than 150 published articles in another field. She serves as executive director of Hawks Aloft, a nonprofit organization focused on protecting wild birds and their habitats.
